You can see this year has been a lot of children’s literature. My son insisted I finish the Series of Unfortunate Events. And we both discovered The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place. I LOVED that series. I was so excited to read the last book only to have it end in a cliffhanger. The new book does not come out until August 8, 2017!!! I would totally recommend this series for your older kids. The main character is a governess, but my son loves it. She gains a job only to find out the children are a bit “wolfish”. There is a fun mystery that I am still trying to solve. And the humor and wit are quite lovely.
My favorite reads this year are The Nightingale and I am Malala. Both have such strong female characters. I have heard amazing things about Malala for awhile and when I saw her biography I knew I needed to read it. I need to purchase her story so each of my kids can read her book. I think I want to wait until my oldest is 12 as the book has quite a bit of war. I love her courage and spirit in her quest for knowledge and an education. I also have much respect for her father. She was so blessed to be born into a family where she had value, even though she’s a girl. I would definitely recommend this book!!! I was able to finish it rather quickly.
The Nightingale was given to me by a dear friend. I’ve realized I really enjoy historical fiction. I love learning about history as it relates to people. I find myself questioning if I would act with such courage while facing such hard situations. I would also recommend this book to you to read as well.
The one book I was disappointed in was Eligible. So disappointed! I love Pride and Prejudice!!! But this story started out great but ended up having too much language. And some of the content was not very positive. It was a bit crass. And I was so looking forward to it!
If you read my Summer Reading suggestions that you know what books I still want to tackle this next year. I was happy to make my goal of 30 books this year. I think I will strive to have more adult novels this next year. Not that I don’t enjoy children’s literature, but I should step it up.
You can read about what books I loved in 2015 in this post! I would encourage you to keep a record of what you read each year. It’s such a fun tradition!!! I try to record what I reread or what was an Audio Book, which work great for car rides. Do you have a book that you really loved this year??? Share it in the comments below. Or share a link if you posted it online. I’m always looking for new books to read.
