Breakfast in bed is a tradition in our home on Father’s Day. My sweetheart works hard for our family all year long. My kids love bringing him breakfast in bed. Today I am sharing a fun tray I found at a local thrift store and how I spruced it up in time for Father’s Day. I was pretty excited to find a sturdy tray that came with legs! I didn’t mind snagging it for $8 because I knew we would use it again and again. Personally I think it would be great for tea parties. With just a little paint from Folk Art Home Décor Chalk Furniture Paint in this color it looked as good as new. I sanded the edges and finished it with some wax to sealed it. If only I had found this beauty in time for Mother’s Day.
The color of the tray isn’t a terrible color, but it was worn and chipped in some spots. I like Cherry wood, but I really love white. I’m so happy with how it turned out. The chalk paint didn’t take very much. I had some leftover from a frame I painted. And it was easy to distress. Keep your eye open at your local thrift store to find a perfect tray for your family. Eating off a tray is so much sturdier than a plate on your lap. Adding fresh flowers and a card kicks your presentation up a notch!
I used some cloth napkins from my Galentine’s Day Brunch to add some color to the tray. You could even make a vinyl design or paint flowers if you didn’t want your tray a solid color. I’m happy with my simple tray and thinking about all the things I could use it for. My hubby was excited about my thrift store find, especially with Father’s Day around the corner.
My kids favorite part in bringing a fancy breakfast to dad in bed is the hopes of having a bite or two. Like my husband, my kids are big fans of breakfast. And doesn’t she look adorable in her Ariel pajamas? Her dress isn’t available anymore but you can purchase a shirt like my hubby’s here.
Clearly this girl is adored and valued by her dad. Fatherhood is such a divine and important role. They say the most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother and them. This dad shows his love with hug, kisses, saying I love you frequently, and taking care of our family. He works hard for our family and then comes home to fix our leaky sink. He makes time for the kids and plays Legos with them, always building the best ships without any instructions. #masterbuilder And makes time for date nights with me. Even if it means he has to stay up late to finish responsibilities like packing for scout camp or finish editing his Third Hour of Power Podcast. We are so thankful for all the love he shows our family. He is a great protector and provider.
We need to encourage and build up great dads everywhere. We need to let them know that they are valued and loved. Father’s Day is a great time to make them feel extra special. But we need to show our gratitude to them all year long. I love this beautiful video my sweetheart shared. He said he likes to think of it’s message when I send him pictures of me and the kids having fun adventures.
