Using tissue paper to decorate and it’s not the right color? No problem. You can Dye Tissue paper. I saw these adorable tissue paper flowers from Martha Stewart and thought they would be perfect for my Mint to Be shower! But I really wanted something coral and the colors weren’t right. Then I remembered I could change that no problem. Why do I tend to forget dying with Rit Dye is such an easy solution? I’m happy to share some tips for dying tissue paper with a squirt bottle. It’s so fast and easy.
How to Dye Tissue Paper:
Supplies:
Large canvas or drop cloth
Water bottle

Start with your tissue paper. In my example I assembled my Tissue Paper Flowers first. And really the white flowers look really pretty! But I wanted to stay on theme with my colors. I went ahead and only dyed three out of the five. Lay your flower on your drop cloth. Give yourself some place because you don’t want to get dye on your carpet or walls.
The next step is mixing your color. If you need a color that already exists, great! They have so many colors! Or you can pop over here to find the right color for your project. The beauty of their liquid dyes is that you can mix and match them. And the hair colorist in me loves that! Their website is so great about giving you exact measurements. I like to spray my mixture in the sink to see the color. And it usually takes a couple of sprays to get the water bottle full of color. I always rinse my sink right away to make clean up easier.
I like to spray my color on in layers. Don’t try to get it the perfect color the first time. Damp tissue paper is great. Sopping wet paper threatens the integrity on the paper. You may notice clumps of color on your project. I just turned my project upside down and shook it off. I didn’t want the color to pool and to not dye evenly. But you can concentrate on certain areas. I tried to spray more in the center of the flower to give more depth to my flowers. Just remember to apply more color in layers.
I was able to apply several layers of my coral color to achieve the look I wanted. The tissue dries fairly fast (at least in Arizona it does). After it dries you can evaluate if you want to add more color. You could even apply different shades to one project.
I love being able to customize my party décor with Rit Dye. If you remembered I used some of their projects for my Halloween Costume last year. This post is not sponsored by Rit Dye, I just really love their products. I was so happy with how my friend’s shower turned out. I love decorating for special events and keeping the cost down. In case you missed my Mint to Be shower you can find it here.
After my flowers were completely dry I was able to re-fluff them. I am so glad I remembered that I shouldn’t let a simple thing, like not having the colors I need, keep me from decorating the way I want. Thanks so much for reading this post!
