I just love this soft sugar cookie recipe! And it’s so easy you can’t mess it up. I’ve been using this for years ever since my dear friend Jean Campbell gave it to me. And because she is literally the sweetest, she said I could share it with you. Those of you who know Jean, already know her sugar cookies are famous. And you might just remember her famous Cream Puffs I shared last year! I love thinking of her when I make these cookies. And they are hands down my favorite!!!
This recipe does make you wait 4 hours or you can leave them in the fridge overnight. I make them every Valentine’s Day for my sweetheart and kids. I think they make the perfect gift! Heart shaped cookies with pink frosting and red sprinkles. What better way to say ‘I love you’ than with this sweet treat. I also like to make them at Christmas and 4th of July. Also birthday parties. They hold their shape fairly well. (Usually better on the first couple of rolls. Like any sugar cookie recipe the more times you roll out your dough the less pretty they look.)
And the softness!!! The perfect texture! I just love this recipe. And I’m so happy to share it with you. I usually like to make them with her frosting recipe, unless I want my frosting to harden because of a design. Her sweet frosting is the best way to eat them, even if my frosting skills need some work.
And I love to have my kids help in the kitchen with this recipe. They love stamping designs and later decorating them. Speaking of awesome cookie cutters, did you see William Sonoma has Star Wars cookie cutters again? Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day more than Darth Vader or C3PO. Grab them now before May the 4th!
