Endor Leia Hair might be my favorite. I know her classic look in New Hope is really awesome, but I’m a big fan of her hairstyle on the planet Endor. Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie. Last year our family Halloween theme was Return of the Jedi. I decided to go with Endor Leia because my daughter was an adorable Ewok. And also because slave Leia showed a bit too much skin for our church Trunk or Treat. I’m super behind on sharing this tutorial. I really appreciate the feedback and the reminders from my readers. Thanks Ladies!!!
Endor Leia Hair Tutorial
Supplies Needed:
- Little rubber bands
- Smoother
- Bobby pins/Hair pins
- Cording for adornment
- Extensions (optional)
- Rat tail comb for parting
- Clips for control
I parted my hair on the side and smoothed out the top. My personal favorite hair product is KMS’s Hot Flex Cream. Gives shape, support, and protection. Apply when wet and blow dry and style as usual.
Section your hair by following your part to the center of your head and parting it down towards your ear. Braid your hair. If needed apply a smoother to help control fly aways before braiding. Use a little rubber band to secure your braid. Feel free to pancake your braids, or pull on them slightly, to give yourself a thicker braid.
Repeat with the other side. Fold your braid back over so your braid creates a head band effect. Now if you are going to add some extensions, great. If not before you cross your braid over, wrap some cording around it. I got some trim/suede cording from Joanne’s. Endor Leia has an “X” pattern so you want to have two cords per braid for wrapping around. You can tie the cording around your braid and also bobby pin them in.
Make sure when you cross your braid over that your front hair lays nicely. You may have to work with it a bit. Secure with bobby pins. Or if your hair is really thick, hair pins.
Cross over your other braid so it make a complete headband. Try to pin and tuck the braid under the other braid to hide the rubber bands. You can see below how I tucked the ends under the other braid.
I used panel extensions for my hair. I braided them, tied them off with a little rubber band and then attached my cording.
This hairstyle is actually super cute on it’s own. And if you are being Princess Leia on Endor after she makes friends with the Ewoks and ‘lets her hair down’ you can go ahead and stop here. Or maybe braid the back and let it out later to get those waves she has.
You now want to section from the center of your head down the back to create two even sections in the back. Essentially your hair is divided into quarters. Braid and secure with a rubber band as shown in the picture.
Now I want to pin my extension braid back behind my parting for my front section. Make sure this is really secure. In the picture above you can still see the end of my braid. After it’s secure tuck it under your extension braid. Wrap your extension around your head band, securing with bobby pins.
Take your last section and braid it. Now you can secure your extension hair past your parting with bobby pins.
Now take your back braids and secure in a little bun. Leia has a thing for buns. Secure with bobby pins. This will also help hide your extensions that have been pinned back if you chose to use them. Repeat with the other side. You now have a braided headband and two back braided buns.
