What better way to wish someone a Happy Valentines Day than with a Star Wars Valentine! Who doesn’t automatically think of Darth Vader when Valentines Day is mentioned. I made these cute little treat toppers that would be perfect for a Valentines treat! Maybe I just wanted another reason to use this Darth Vader cookies cutter. They really are perfect for any holiday celebration. You can just print this free Valentine up, fold, and staple it to your treat bag. Don’t have time to make cookies? No problem! You can just pick up some Hersey’s Hugs Chocolate Candy. They work well with the Valentine message “Free Throat Hugs”.
I made sure to include a spot for you or your child to write their name. It’s nice to remember who this fun Valentine is from, but more important is it gives our kids a chance to practice their penmanship. I have always love how this holiday encourages kids to read and write without them really knowing it. I love spending the afternoon with my kids while they write out their Valentines. Unless of course time get away from up and it’s the 13th of February. But usually we plan ahead of time and enjoy getting them done. I have always loved in older movies when the idea was portrayed that if someone’s penmanship was beautiful surely their character was superior. That could be why I love beautiful writing. But really I love seeing beautiful handwriting. It brings me joy. My husband happens to have terrible writing but I can attest to his good character.
I think the reason I love Valentines Day is that we have an opportunity to promote love and friendship. This holiday isn’t about presents (although I love presents!) or spending money. It’s about showing someone you care and are thinking of them. It can be simple. It can involve food, flowers, or presents, but it doesn’t have to. You can drop off or mail a little something to let someone you love know that you are thankful for them. And I do the romance side of the holiday. But I also love encouraging more family love and togetherness and showing friends that we love them too. Grady and I made a deal that I would always get our boys a valentine and he would always get flowers (not necessarily bought) for me and our daughters. Stephan Covey (one of my heroes) always got his daughters flowers. They grew up getting flowers from their dad. Then as adults they would get flowers and they would have to look and see if it was from their dad or husband. What a great way to show someone you love them.
I also want to teach my sons to show appreciation to the girls in their life and be comfortable giving Valentines to girls. And it doesn’t mean they “love” them or want to marry them. It’s just a nice thing to do. And girls like getting valentines. Personally I gave out Valentines even in High School. I seriously love this holiday. And I want to teach my sons and daughter that if feels great to serve others. One of my favorite Valentines Day in High School was when my girlfriend and I went out the night before Valentines Day and “heart attacked” every boy in our seminary class. We decorated their front door with paper hearts. It was so much fun! And then the next day, in seminary (it’s a church class where you learn about the scriptures before you go to school. We went at 6:00 am) we went into class and acted like nothing happened. As we were copying references from the chalk board we could hear all the guys talking, “Hey dude, did you get hearts all over your house too?” I don’t know if they ever found out it was us but it sure was fun.

I still have a long ways to go when if comes to decorating Star Wars cookies. I think next time I will make my dark grey first and pipe the outline. Then I will come back and make my black frosting. I really do enjoy frosting them. And my kids really enjoy eating them. So it’s a win win kind of thing. I think my daughter loves Darth Vader the most. She is convinced when he is breathing that he is asking for a “Coo-kie” as he breathes.
I hope your family loves this little Valentine! For more Star Wars post check out this section of my blog. And be sure to like our Facebook page as we share more of our favorite Valentine ideas!!!
*This blog does not encourage choking of any kind. Our hearts were saddened when Anakin turned to the dark side. Any image of him does not endorse his rule as a Dark Lord Sith. His skill for “throat hugs”, though impressive, are not encouraged. This might be a great opportunity to discuss violence from Star Wars and ways we can resist the Dark Side. *
