Galentine’s Day Brunch?!? What could be more perfect? In case you haven’t had the pleasure of watching Parks and Rec let me fill you in on Galentine’s Day. According to Leslie Knope (Played by Amy Poehler) it should be a national holiday! Ladies celebrating ladies. So for the past couple of years I have gone out with my girlfriends, usually for dessert, to celebrate our friendship. I was so excited that February 13th landed on a Saturday this year. (I have been waiting all year!) In the show Leslie usually celebrates with her lady friends over breakfast. Waffles are pretty much her favorite food. I thought it would be the perfect time for some friends to sneak away and join me in Galentine’s Day Brunch.
The most important thing you need to celebrate this awesome holiday is great girl friends. The rest is just fluff. Take time to let your dearest friends know that you love them and you are so happy they are in your life.
But if you wanted an excuse to throw a party then keep on reading. I love spending time with my favorite friends. And sometimes it’s nice to break out your nicer plates and have fresh flowers. I love being surrounded by beauty. And most mornings I am eating my breakfast burrito while reading my scriptures on a messy table while my 2 year old asks for bites. So it makes sense why I love having fun with this holiday.
How to Throw a Galentine’s Day Brunch (Or any Brunch really)
The four most important things are cute invites, great people, great food, and flowers.
Invites. I love creating a simple image and inviting my friends to a celebration. Your invite gives your guest a kind of feel for what kind of a party you are throwing. One of my friends suggested a pajama brunch! What a great idea. You can ask each friend to bring a small $5 gift or a favorite candle to exchange. You can let them know how to dress and who is invited. I loved having my friend bring her baby daughter to our Galentine’s Day Brunch. She’s adorable and quiet. My daughter, who is two, was invited to spend some time with her dad and brothers. Her adorable chatty nature was not in the works for our get together.
Great People. I think it’s really beneficial to gather with other strong women and spend time together.
Marjorie P. Hinckley once said, “Oh, how we need each other. Those of us who are old need you who are young. And, hopefully, you who are young need some of us who are old. It is a sociological fact that women need women. We need deep and satisfying and loyal friendships with each other.”
I know that I am edified when I am around other good women. They fill my cup and encourage me to keep pressing forward in whatever struggles I am facing. We can share wisdom, heart ache, and laughter. These things lift our hearts and draw us closer. I am so thankful for the many woman who have touched my heart by their kindness, friendship, and example.
So whether you are inviting other great women or amazing couple or families. Brunches are more enjoyable with those you love. Even if it’s just your own immediate family.
Great Food. Let me be real here. I love good food! I made our Cinnamon Rolls that my family loves. But I made mini ones (almost 30) because we had so many great options on what to eat. It’s nice to be able to eat a little of everything. And you could easily eat two! We kept the menu simple by adding scrambled eggs, bacon (my favorite!), and fresh fruit. I loved serving my favorite fruits together. It’s a wonderful way to help your guests feel great after they are done eating. Having feel good foods to eat is a perfect way to not over eat. After the meal you can visit and chat and not be rushing to take a nap.
Like I mentioned before, Waffles were a must. We did a Waffle Bar so our friends could choose what they wanted on their waffle. Again fresh fruit is an option. I used a creamer and sugar container to hold my syrup and cinnamon and sugar. And because I wanted to be really fancy I went ahead and made fresh whip cream. A little extra work but so worth it. I totally forgot to place the waffle plate back in the oven to warm them after I took these pictures. My guests were nice not to complain. And because I love to plan ahead I made extras so I don’t have to cook dinner tonight for my family.
Fresh Flowers make my heart happy. I don’t like to spend a lot of money when it comes to decorating. I chose the colors yellow, teal, peach, and gold for my Galentine’s Day Brunch. I love using frames from around my house. I have some extra ones I use to switch out on my mantle for different seasons. So I gathered frames and décor to decorate my serving area. I also made some word art. I love when Leslie Knope says “Uteruses before Duderuses” or “Ovaries before Brovaries” What a great saying! My sons were quite concerned that I was saying girls were better than boys.
To really make our dinning area feel enchanting I got some fresh flowers from Trader Joes. I love that I was able to get two bunches of gorgeous flowers for under $15. And I was over the moon excited to find some peach colored flowers. Life is better with fresh flowers.
With a little extra paper I was able to add a little color to our celebration. The gold dots are from Georgiana’s 2nd birthday. I had the gold Mason jars from the shower I helped throw for the darling little girl who I mentioned above. And the embroidery hoop is from the Elevate Blog Conference (Tickets on sale now) by the talented Blue without You Keepsakes for kids. I love using little things around my house to make an area look special. I also had material on hand to use as a runner. I originally bought it to make bows for my daughter. I will get to those too… eventually.
I also love printing up a menu to display or having fun quotes that go with our party. I love when Leslie Knope says…
“We need to remember what’s important in life. Friends, waffles, and work. Or waffles, friends, work. It doesn’t matter. But work is third.”
By creating a welcoming and comfortable environment our guests can feel welcomed and relaxed. I just love the ease of good conversation during and after a meal with good friends. And it’s great to work hard on a event and not have everyone done in 6 minutes.
Little extras like cloth napkins or straws with room for name tags so your guest can remember everyone’s name make for a good time too! I hope you enjoyed this little brunch. I was so excited to have some dear friends over to celebrate lady friends.
