Grandma Jean’s Cream Puff recipe is famous in the Huntington Beach area. Grandma Jean makes the best Cream Puffs. If you are lucky enough to see them in a wedding dessert table you better grab one quick or they will be gone. For those of you who may not know Grandma Jean she is the sweetest! Always smiles and kindness. The secret to her sweetness may just be that she eats chocolate everyday. She is also famous in our house for her amazing Sugar Cookies. My husband swears she always has these Cream Puffs in her purse. She told me she doesn’t. But she does always have chocolate there. Her personal favorite is See’s. I asked her to show me how to make her famous Cream Puffs and she told me they were so easy, she would just give me the recipe right there. My husband’s birthday was next week and I wanted to surprise him. I don’t think we had any left at his Dinner Party two days later. And lucky for you she said I could share her recipe on my blog.
Cream Puff Recipe
After you make your pasty mixture you can mix up your filling. Really you can use any filling. But her recipe calls for a small box of Vanilla Pudding but you want to mix it with Half and Half instead of milk. Set that aside. To make her pastry puffs she told me to twirl the spoon as you place your batter on your pan. My silicone mats are amazing for this recipe. You can probably tell from these photos that I use them quite a bit. I was a little nervous I might mess up the recipe, because life was crazy and I had to make them that day for my Hubby’s birthday. They baked up perfectly. And he was so excited! He was able to eat a few before heading off to choir practice.
Now Grandma Jean made sure I knew how to make Homemade Whipped Cream. I let her know that our family loves to make homemade Whipping Cream. It hardly takes anytime and is so much better than the stuff in the can.
I was so excited to slice into my puffs and see those gorgeous air pockets! They puffed up beautifully. Simply top them with your pudding and then your Whipped Cream. And I love using a tool like this to sprinkle my Powdered Sugar.
- 1 cup water
- 1 cube butter
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup flour
- 4 eggs
- Small box of Vanilla Pudding
- Half and half
- Homemade Whipped Cream
- Powdered Sugar to sprinkle on top
- 1. In a sauce pan combine water, butter, and salt. Stir until it's almost to a boil. Remove from heat.
- 2. Add 1 cup of flour. Stir until it's a compact ball and doesn't stick to the sides. It will appear shiny. Beat it as it cools down.
- 3. Then add eggs one at a time. Be sure it's cool enough so the eggs won't start to cook. Continually stir each egg in.
- 4. With a spoon drop a spoonful on the pan twirling it up to create height.
- 5. Bake at 350* for 40 minutes.
- 6. Make your Vanilla Pudding according to directions but substitute half and half instead of milk.
- 7. Split your cream puff and fill with pudding and whipped cream. Add the top of your puff and sprinkle your cream puff with powdered sugar.
- To make Homemade Whipping Cream beat 1 cup of whipping cream in your kitchen aid (Or with beaters). When it starts to get thick add 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 tsp of vanilla. Mix again to distribute.
