It’s been awhile since I have posted in my Musical Mania series. If this is your first Musical Mania post let me share my vision. I love musicals and I want to pass that love on to my children. In an effort to make watching musicals a little more memorable I have been making dinner, treats, or snacks that coordinate with the chosen movie. I hope your family will love this adventure as much as mine has. My kids are much more likely to try a new movie if we have a yummy treat along with it.
This week we finally watched Disney’s Enchanted. We also have a musical playlist on Spotify where my children can listen to songs from these movies. My boys love “Happy, Working Song” from Enchanted. I think the cockroaches singing is their favorite part. And can I just say I love watching a movie as a family, especially when all 4 of my kids start busting up laughing. This usually leads to weeks of my kids quoting movies (they get that from their dad) and laughing again together. All of my kids LOVED this movie. We defiantly need to add it to our movie collection.
Right away I knew the perfect treat would be caramel apples. Our family loves to make caramel apples this time of year. We also love taking some to our teachers to show our love and appreciation. I like when I can send in a treat at a random time of year. I’m sure they get so many at Christmas time. I ended up having to make an extra batch of apples because Gandalf reminded me ALL his resource teachers needed one. I forgot how many teachers he has. I loved having my boys help in the kitchen. Yoda carried the apples, Draco washed them, and Gandalf dried them. Draco also helped by stirring and tipping the pot when I was working on covering the last apples with caramel.
I went ahead and used our family’s favorite caramel apple recipe from No Biggie. Best candy apple ever!!! They taste just like my favorite candy apples from Rocky Mountain Candy Co. and they are so much cheaper to make them yourself. Plus they look really fancy. They make for a great gift. Draco’s school nurse wanted to know the recipe and I happily sent her a link to the website. To make the sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar part easier I love using this kitchen tool.
Go ahead and give her recipe a try, I promise you will be happy you did. And be sure to check out Enchanted. It’s a fairytale where a fair maiden is sent to New York City. She is lost and confused and looking for her Prince Edward. She is introduced to a gentlemen and his daughter. It’s a perfect plot because this man doesn’t believe in fairy tales or the promise of happily ever after. I love how they mock the Princess fairy tale story while providing laughter and great music. My kids favorite character is Prince Edward because he is hilarious and not the brightest prince around. It’s always great to find a movie that your 2 year old daughter loves but is also entertaining for your 10 year old son.
Be sure to check out our other great movies in this series…
