I love trash days!!! I was so excited to give this old sign a makeover. Once a month my city has a big trash day. We call it a treasure hunt. We drive around different neighborhoods looking for potential treasures. It may sound weird but I try and follow my gut and see where it leads me. I cannot believe the treasure I have found. It can drive my hubby a little crazy when side tables and headboards start piling up. I wish I had more time to transform what I have found. This month I scored some wood and some really great frames. Seriously I would have paid money for these gorgeous finds. And they were just laying there ready to be sent to a landfill. While I picked them up I found this old business sign. I knew there was potential in it. And that’s when I decided the old sign needed a make over.
You can see it above. Just an ordinary business sign that had served it’s purpose. It was a little dirty and faded. But I could see it’s real worth.
Isn’t she gorgeous!!! She makes my heart happy. She fills me with joy. So that’s what I named her.
I started by taping off the sign so I could spray paint my frame. I chose this Glossy Red by Rust-Oleum. After two coats she was good to go. Then I tried to paint the sign with some basic paint but I changed my mind. I remember seeing decorative paper like this at Joanne’s that I wanted to try. There were so many great designs but I ended up with this one. I measured twice and cut my paper to fit my sign. I knew this print would look great with the sign but also for future projects. I thought it was like a contact paper, but it was just really great thick paper perfect for projects. So I Mod Podge it on instead. (If you want to try contact paper I found a similar print here)
I picked up some 9 inch letters and spray painted them in red too! Then using a hot glue gun I adhered them to my sign. With these items I was able to transform this old sign into a super cute Christmas decoration. I seriously LOVE it. And my hubby does too! Our front porch looks so much more cheerful.
I am so glad I listened to my heart and put that old sign in my car along with those other frames. I can’t wait to show you those too! I love our new Christmas sign. And I love the reminder that just because something or someone looks faded or worn out doesn’t mean they don’t have worth.
