One of our Summer Fun List goals was to serve more as a family. I found this organization from another blog and wanted to give it a try. My wonderful girlfriend was able to watch my other children and I was able to take my oldest and do some good in the world. At first he was not excited. Uh! Service? And on summer vacation. But when we pulled up and he saw that he would be able to help other children he turned his attitude around. It took about 3 hours of our time. It was such a great experience. Our group was able to pack enough food to feed 93 children for a year! I seriously can’t wait to go back. My son loved it, too. We had so much fun packing food as we listened to great music. And the other volunteers were so sweet. We were with some college students who were so patient about listening to my son talk about Pokemon. His emotional bank account was totally filled by serving others and from having other people ask him about Pokemon. Afterwards we had a chance to pray over the food if we felt so inclined. It was so great to pray with strangers, of other faiths, for these sweet children.
Now normally we when do service we don’t always shout it from the roof tops. Personally I would rather be blessed with heavenly blessings than recognition for what I am doing. But I really wanted to share this opportunity to be part of a Mobile Pack in Phoenix Arizona. You can learn more about this great event by clicking HERE. It is perfect for the whole family. If everyone in your family is over the age of 5 that is. We teach our children that because we have been given much we too must give. This is a great way to put that teaching into action. We can show them that we can carve out time from our busy lives to help those who need our help.
I can’t wait to go back! Serving others brings so much happiness to my heart. And it is the perfect activity to grow closer to my older two. Having these teaching moments brings us closer. We were able to talk about how blessed we are. And what The Lord wants us to do about it. Next time I am going to bring Draco as well. I wasn’t sure how things would work with being able to serve and help both of my boys do what they needed too. Now that Gandalf has gone we should be able to make it work. After our session we were able to clean up and sanitize. It was so great to see Gandalf jump in and offer to sweep. Having him clean and demonstrate willingness to jump in, huge bonus! Serve with your family. It will be time well spent. If you aren’t in the area you can click on the link above and make a donation if you feel so inclined. All food is packed by volunteers but paid for my donations. I am so thankful for the Feed My Starving Children organization. I am so thankful I have food to feed my family. And thankful there is a location so close that will help me help others.
