Our family theme this year is The Last Jedi. One of our friends said to me, “Didn’t you guys just do a Star Wars Halloween?” Technically it was like 3-4 years ago. And that year we did Return of the Jedi. Totally different time in Star Wars. Star Wars is kinda a classic. And I’m pretty sure we are going to keep doing it. We actually almost went with Star Wars Rebels, but man do my kids love Porgs! Our family loves dressing up together for Halloween. Search the Halloween tag to see past family themes.
And to help capture this magical time of Halloween we hired Lydia from Photography Hill to take our family pictures. I’m a big fan of taking family pictures, especially when you can hire someone. These are the things I cherish. And I want to remember the little things. Your outfits don’t need to match and no one needs to be an ideal weight. It’s about preserving a time in your family. And when you hire a great photographer you are going to look great.
I spend so much time sewing and creating our family costumes it only seems right to immortalize these Star Wars pictures in all their glory. Family pictures are about YOUR family. And what’s important to you.
This darling girl was BB8. I mean could she get any cuter? At first I totally wanted her to be Rey, but she just loves BB8. (For the record Leia is her favorite. Also she loves Darth Vader and DOES NOT like Kylo) In the picture above she’s giving a thumbs up. Last week during dance class the other girls dressed up like princesses and unicorns. She was rocking her Star Wars costume with such confidence. Another girl was batgirl which was pretty cool. But we heard some older brothers noticing her awesome costume.
This girl doesn’t even know how lucky she is in the brother department! Poe is always looking out for her. And he always shares his treat with her without being asked. They are such good friends. And his serious face is pretty awesome.
Draco was so excited to be a porg. They love that little cartoon where a porg finds a lightsaber. I’m pretty sure my hubby picked Luke Skywalker so he could grow out a beard without me complaining. (What can I say? I love kissing his smooth face) I love that we could reuse his cloak from Boromir from Lord of the Rings. And his apron is from when he was Old Ben Kenobi. (again.. another beard)
Naturally I had to be Rey. She’s the most important person in The Last Jedi. And since little miss wanted to be a droid I was more than happen to oblige. Plus my brown hair was perfect. Doesn’t it look fab? If you wanted to be Rey from earlier in the movie check out this Rey hair style tutorial. I was going for when Rey and Kylo Ren kick butt together because that scene was awesome. And I love being a strong female lead for my daughter. And if we are being honest my sons too. We need kind, brave, and fearless heroes in our world today.
Our Kylo Ren looks amazing. He was the right about of angst with being 13. And honestly I’m so stoked that he’s still willing to dress up with our family. He mentioned a costume idea I might do when we stop doing our family theme. And I was like, “oh yeah, when you live on your own..” Really hoping that sank in…
And because she’s so adorable, here’s one more of our BB8. I’m so thankful for Lydia and her amazing photography skills. These pictures will be a treasure to our family. Because we all know Star Wars is timeless and someday their kids are going to think it’s so cool that we dressed up as Star Wars characters… again. Check out other costumes ideas here.
