One thing I’ve always wanted to do was to go to Utah with my Grandma. She was born and raised in Provo, Utah. She would tell me stories about growing up and reference Utah streets like I had been there and knew it well. I’ve only been there like 5 times in my life. And I find Utah very confusing. One place she would talk about was the George Taylor Home. One of our ancestors along with his father in law built this lovely home. I don’t remember if she went there as a child, but she sure loved this home.
Here she is with her brother, sister, and half sister. Last May when I went to visit Utah for a week I knew I had to find this home. We were able to meet up with a missionary who served in our area when we lived in California. We love having the missionaries in our home especially when they are so great with our kids. Elder G was a wonderful missionary and about sharing scriptures and talking with my boys. He would always bring the spirit in our home. He is going to school in the area and it turns out it was a great place to meet.
Turns out they painted the house a different color (I think I love the blue and white better) so it took us a little longer to find it. There were people living in the house when we went by. I think I seriously creeped the kids out who shut the blinds. They ended up leaving with their mom a bit later so I didn’t feel bad about talking a picture with us in front of it.
I think it’s lovely that the city of Provo is preserving these wonderful landmarks. Look at how gorgeous this home it. What talent that is to be able to build your own home especially back them. I loved showing my boys this home and teaching them about family history. Gandalf did his ancestor report on George Taylor Sr. so he enjoy seeing this home.
It was crazy bright that day but beautiful. I would like to think my Grandma was happy knowing I visited a place that was so dear to her. I love being in Utah and thinking of her and trying to remember all the places she told me about. We can’t wait to go to Utah again.
