A couple of Saturday ago we didn’t have any social obligations which I was pretty excited about. I love camping and going to California but it is nice to be home and get stuff done. I was busy working on projects without having to worry about picking up kids and weekday commitments. And then I realized my whole morning was so busy with being productive that I was missing moments with my sweet daughter. And even though getting things done helps me to be a more organized mom I am trying to make sure I am there for my kids. I needed to snap some pictures of Georgiana in her new Cinderella dress so I promised her that when we were done we would have a tea party. My sons have been asking when we would have a real tea party with real drinks. I told them that they could join us if they had finished cleaning their room by then. My kids are so much happier when we have one on one time.
I have been trying to figure out the best beverage to serve at our tea party. Georgiana is only two and I have concerns with drinking anything too hot. And personally I don’t drink real tea or anything that is made from tea leaves. I don’t mind having “herbal tea” as long as it’s just herbs steeped in water. But the temperature of the beverage was still a problem. And I wanted to have the option of using the sugar and cream containers to make it more authentic. Then I had a great idea. We would drink Lemonade, but we would make it a homemade version where you add your own lemon and sugar.
After her photo shoot I ran upstairs and put on a fancy skirt and grab a nice top. I threw my hair up and pulled out some jewelry from my Grandma that I got just for Georgiana to use for dress up. Georgiana picked out some heels for me (Her latest obsession). She was over the moon excited. She loved that I was getting dressed up with her.
I then grabbed some items from our kitchen and brought her table down stairs and set things up. She was in heaven!! She loved pouring water for herself and me. And I have to say her aim improve quite a bit. I made a point to not care that there would be a mess. She loved scooping sugar in her cup. Especially after she tasted it. She kept adding more to her cup. But I must say she was a gracious host as she made sure I had lots of sugar too.
I went ahead and poured the lemon juice for us this time. It was perfect for the creamer container. She has been practicing stirring her tea for a year now and her hard work has paid off. She loved that there was cookies too! I am so glad that I didn’t miss out on spending some quality time with her. She was so happy. We had a chance to talk together. I felt like we were having a Finer Club Meeting. I asked her what books she was reading and she told me. “Harry Potter”. We talked about how we can serve others and our favorite princesses. This is definitely a tradition we will be repeating. Tea Parties are exciting enough, let alone when we get to really pour and scoop with our plastic ware. Dress up clothes, jewelry, and high heels just make more fancy.
Try and take some time out of your busy day to spend some quality time with your child. Read a book, dance to some music, make a treat, or play their favorite game. Those little things are really so important and mean the world to them. It doesn’t have to be a big production. We have found especially when one of our children is acting up that one on one time is the best solution. What is your favorite activity with your child???
